UIndy student-athlete earns national honors

University of Indianapolis senior Craig Ray is racking up honors in the wake of the 2010 football season.

Ray, a Plainfield High School graduate who switched from running back to safety after his freshman year, was among just 25 players named Wednesday to the American Football Coaches Association’s NCAA Division II All-America team. He also was named to the Daktronics All-America second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

On Thursday, Ray was named to the Associate Press Little All-America team, which recognizes top players in NCAA Division II and III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Also a performer in the classroom, the defensive standout and physical education major was honored earlier this fall with a spot on the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN College Division Academic All-District 5 Second Team.

Ray and Greyhounds Head Coach Bob Bartolomeo spoke to the Indianapolis Star for this story.
