Volleyball celebration planned for Thursday
The campus community is pulling out all the stops Thursday to support UIndy’s No. 19 volleyball team as it prepares to host the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional.
The top-seeded Greyhounds will face Rockhurst at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the eight-team battle, which continues through Saturday at Ruth Lilly Center.
Faculty, students, staff and alumni are encouraged to wear UIndy apparel and colors Thursday and turn out for a free tailgate lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Schwitzer Student Center atrium. A short program at noon will feature the volleyball players, coach Jody Rogers and Indy the Greyhound mascot. The first 300 in attendance will receive free T-shirts.
Door admission for the 5 p.m. match is $5 for students and $10 for faculty and staff, but free tickets (one per campus ID) will be available at lunch for the first 100 students and first 50 faculty and staff members. The first 250 fans to enter Ruth Lilly Center will receive free UIndy rally towels.
This season marks the team’s sixth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and its second time serving as top seed and host of the regional. Find more info at the Athletics website.
