Philosophy prof to speak in Wheeler series

Associate Professor of Philosophy Peter Murphy will deliver two free public lectures this month at the Wheeler Arts Community in Fountain Square.

The events are presented through Type 3, a new lecture and concert series organized by UIndy’s Community Programs Center.

Dr. Murphy’s first lecture, “Philosophy and Fiction,” is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Wheeler classroom at 1035 Sanders St. He will explore how characters and situations in books, films, TV and other storytelling media can move us emotionally despite their fictional nature, along with other paradoxes of the arts. Free refreshments will be served, and L/P credit is available for students.

In another lecture scheduled Feb. 18, Murphy will discuss “Philosophy and Economic Inequality,” exploring the moral issues raised by the nation’s growing income inequality.
