In the news: Alum’s stroke sparks new direction



UIndy alumnus Scott Vannatter has faced his share of challenges since suffering a major stroke in 2010, but one result has been surprising and positive: He launched a new career as a writer of horror fiction.

Since then, the 55-year-old Middletown resident — who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from UIndy — has sold several stories and seen four of them published in anthologies. His unlikely personal tale was told earlier this month in the Muncie Star Press and has since appeared in newspapers nationwide.

“My biggest belief is that everything works together for good in the end,” said the former teacher and computer expert, who also blogs at “If it hasn’t, it’s not the end.”
