Faculty Artist Concert Series: Old, New, and Impromptu
UIndy faculty emeritus Richard Ratliff opens the concert with two works by faculty composer Matthew Bridgham: Nocturne No. 1 and a premiere performance of Sonata Rustica, both for solo piano. Terence Mayhue (marimba) and Greg Martin (piano) reach back just slightly to revisit a selection from Children’s Songs by the now-late Chick Corea, while Mayhue and saxophonist Mark O’Connor bring the traditional Irish hornpipe “Rights of Man” into the present. Mezzo soprano Mitzi Westra and Greg Martin have selected some favorite gems from Brahms’s Lieder, notable simply for their sheer beauty.
