Faculty Artist Concert Series: UIndy Faculty Brass Quintet
Conrad Jones, Trumpet; Allen Miller, Trumpet Guest Artist; Darin Sorley, Horn; Ryan Miller, Trombone; Heather Miller, Bass Trombone; Paul Mergen, Tuba; Rebecca Sorley, Piano
Join the UIndy Faculty Brass Quintet for a concert of brass duets, trios, and quintets. Conrad Jones, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra principal trumpet, and Allen Miller, ISO acting assistant principal trumpet, will perform Calls and Echoes by Verne Reynolds, which recalls the function of early brass in the hunt and military. Faculty members Darin Sorley (horn), Paul Mergen (tuba), and Dr. Rebecca Sorley (piano) will perform a newer work by Frank Gulino titled Big Sky, a piece showing the more lyrical side of the horn and tuba. Ryan Miller, acting principal trombone of the ISO and his wife, Heather Miller, will perform Devil’s Waltz by Steven Verhelst. This work begins as a waltz, but then becomes “devilish” when the waltz rhythm becomes a technical challenge. This concert rounds out with quintets by British composer Malcolm Arnold and film composer Michael Kamen.
