UIndy to host hundreds of teen broadcasters
Workshops led by local media pros will give students a taste of the real world
More than 750 Indiana high school students will hit the University of Indianapolis campus Monday for the 12th annual Indiana Association of School Broadcasters High School Conference and Competition, hosted by UIndy’s student-run WICR-88.7 FM/HD Radio and UIndy TV operations.
Students and instructors from 25 Indiana high schools can choose from nearly 40 workshops and discussions led by professionals from the city’s top broadcast outlets, including WTHR-TV, WISH-TV, WRTV, Fox Sports Indiana, Radio One, WIBC-FM 93.1, WZPL-FM 99.5, ALT 103.3 FM, WNDE-AM 1260 and 107.5/1070 The Fan.
The event also wraps up IASB’s annual high school TV and radio competition. Although many categories are submitted and judged in advance, the radio air personality and newscasting competitions will be broadcast live on WICR beginning at 10 a.m., and the live TV news anchoring competition will begin at 10:15 a.m. in the UIndy TV studios in Esch Hall. The awards – including the coveted TV and Radio School of the Year honors – will be presented after lunch, at 12:45 p.m. in Ransburg Auditorium.
WICR and UIndy TV are operated by UIndy’s Department of Communication.
