Italian duo to present music of Argentina
A surprise addition to the UIndy concert calendar takes place Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the form of two Italian musicians who have become dedicated champions of Argentinian folk music.
The Giampaolo Bandini-Cesare Chiacchiaretta Duo will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center’s elegant Ruth Lilly Performance Hall. Admission is $10 for the general public and free for UIndy faculty, staff and students with ID. The event is presented by the Department of Music, and tickets are available from the Event Ticketing Center.
Bandini plays the nylon-stringed guitar, and Chiacchiaretta plays the bandoneon, a type of concertina or squeezebox instrument common to the traditional tango and other folk styles of South America. The two joined forces in 2002 and have toured extensively, especially in Europe, performing in theaters, at festivals and on TV and radio. They also are in demand as teachers and guest artists at many universities.
