WISH: UIndy to host Special Olympians in a student-run basketball tournament
The NCAA March Madness Sweet 16 and IHSAA State Basketball Finals are not the only big-time basketball tournaments happening this weekend in Indianapolis. Young Special Olympians are also tipping off at the University of Indianapolis in what has become an annual event that combines education for the organizers and state titles for the athletes.
UIndy professor Dr. Jennifer VanSickle explained, “The idea is that our students who are Sport Management majors get to learn how to plan, implement a real live event…and then we get to have interactions with Special Olympics athletes, provide them the best experience possible, to come to a place where people will cheer for them, give them their awards, and they’ll just watch them have fun and the joy of playing basketball!” [continue reading]
