UIndy Faculty, Staff Provide Expert Insight to Local & National Media in April
As part of their commitment to “education for service,” faculty and staff at the University of Indianapolis share their expertise with local and national news outlets in order to keep our community informed and to introduce new perspectives on current issues.
UIndy faculty and staff were featured in the following news stories in April:
Coran Sigman, live mascot handler and marketing & communications manager, was interviewed as part of Grady the Greyhound’s birthday festivities on WISH-TV as well as WXIN and WTHR. She and Grady were featured guests for live interviews about ‘Adopt-a-Greyhound’ month on both Indy Now, airing on WXIN and WTTV, and All Indiana, airing on WISH-TV.
Al Ready, head baseball coach, along with several Greyhound baseball players discussed the ongoing cancer fight of Greyhound pitcher Dawson Gabe for a prominent story which was published on the front sports page of the Indianapolis Star. They also shared during the ‘K-Out Cancer’ fundraiser for Gabe on WTHR.
Dr. James Willis, assistant professor of practice of philosophy & religion, shared his expertise about the legacy and lasting impact of Pope Francis and his papacy for a live interview segment on WISH-TV.
Emily Tisdale, executive director of the Center for Aging & Community, penned an op-ed about why fall prevention must be a public health priority which appeared on WBIW.
Dr. Krista Latham, professor of biology and anthropology, as well as the director of the Human Identification Center, was interviewed by The Indiana Lawyer as investigators deploy new methods to identify the victims of accused serial killer Herb Baumeister and Fox Hollow Farm. The University and the Human Identification Center were also mentioned numerous times, for example on WRTV as well as for a highly syndicated story on WXIN, as a 10th victim was identified from the remains found at Fox Hollow using DNA.
Dr. Larry Belcher, professor of finance, explained how tariffs could impact the stock market, inflation and retirement portfolios for WTHR.
Marianna Foulkrod, director of the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement, was quoted in the Daily Journal in advance of the Great UIndy Cleanup.
Steve Schuetz, interim vice president for enrollment management, shared his expertise on WRTV about a story detailing the impact of defaulting on student loans as collection on those debts resumed.
Carissa Newton, assistant professor of marketing and director of the Stephen F. Fry Business Scholars Program, won a Top 50 Marketing Professional Icon Award from OnConferences.
Dr. Laura Merrifield Wilson, associate professor of political science, was one of the featured guests for several episodes for the politically-minded IN Focus show airing on WXIN as well as on other stations around the state.
Dr. Matt Will, associate professor of finance, discussed financial topics like how the tariffs may snuff out the economic recovery or the shock and awe impact of the tariffs or how President Trump is his own worst enemy for multiple live interview segments with Tony Katz on WIBC.
