University Symphony Orchestra Takes Stage at Kennedy Center

24 people lined up stand in front of John. F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts

The University of Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (USO) took the stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on March 8, marking a significant milestone for the program. This invitation-only performance recognized the orchestra’s artistic accomplishments and commitment to meaningful collaboration.

Under the direction of Dr. Laurie Williams, the USO was joined by student musicians from the Martinsville High School Chamber Orchestra, continuing a strong partnership that has flourished since September.

The performance featured a talented group of 16 UIndy student musicians, who were also joined by UIndy alumna Tori Condra Hilt ’24 (Music Education).

By performing alongside high school musicians, the ensemble demonstrated the power of mentorship, collaboration, and a shared artistic experience.

“Community engagement through service is a priority in the music department,” said Dr. Williams. “Events such as these allow university program leaders unique occasions to demonstrate how we can serve others through music and collaboration.”
