WISH-TV: High schoolers explore medical careers at Young Achievers Academy

Young Achievers Academy at UIndy campers

High school students across Central Indiana are exploring medical careers through the Central Indiana Area Health Education Center (CIAHEC)’s Young Achievers Academy at the University of Indianapolis, a free three-week summer program that offers hands-on exposure to fields such as veterinary medicine, occupational therapy, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and neuroscience. WISH-TV featured the program as part of the summer programming offerings on campus, highlighting students who participated in activities including animal checkups, fetal pig dissections, cadaver lab learning, CPR certification and career-focused field experiences. Monique Kerr, senior program director at CIAHEC, explained how the academy creates access for students who may not otherwise have early exposure to college campuses or healthcare career pathways. The coverage reflects how UIndy’s role as a leader in workforce development, together with Central Indiana Area Health Education Center programming, helps expand access to healthcare career exploration and strengthen Indiana’s future healthcare talent pipeline.
