WXIN: New graduate program at UIndy helps address need for school psychologists

Aerin Welch School Psychology Graduate program

A new University of Indianapolis graduate program is designed to help address the shortage of school psychologists in Indiana and nationwide by preparing working professionals to support students’ academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs. FOX59 featured Aerin Welch, program director of UIndy’s new school psychology graduate program, who explained how the hybrid format combines evening classes, weekend training and hands-on learning so students can continue working while earning a Master of Arts and Education Specialist degree. Welch said many students in the program already work in schools or with students with disabilities and want to take the next step in helping Hoosier students succeed. The coverage highlights how University of Indianapolis expertise in school psychology, behavioral health and workforce development supports broader efforts to strengthen student support services and expand access to qualified school psychologists across Indiana.
