The morning after the election, Republican governor-elect Mike Braun took 45 minutes of questions about his decisive victory from a room full of reporters at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, and then turned the tables.

“Raise your hand,” he prodded, “if you thought the mandate was going to come across the finish line like it did last night.”
