University of Indianapolis offers free vaccination clinic amid renewed awareness over preventable disease outbreaks
The University of Indianapolis is proud to partner with the Indiana Immunization Coalition to offer a free vaccination clinic at the Schwitzer Student Center on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is open to all members of the public and will include a wide variety of vaccines at no cost including Hepatitis A and B, HPV, influenza, meningitis, pertussis (whooping cough), pneumonia, RSV, shingles and tetanus vaccines.

Recent headlines underscore the urgency and importance of remaining up-to-date on vaccinations. Just last month, Texas health officials finally declared the end of a measles outbreak in West Texas which had 762 confirmed cases since January, including two children who died and 99 people who had to be hospitalized.
“Serious outbreaks like the one in Texas this year are a tragic reminder that vaccine-preventable diseases are still very real threats,” said Toni Morris, associate professor of nursing and organizer of the clinic. “By hosting this clinic with the Indiana Immunization Coalition, we’re providing a very important service to our community by increasing access and making it as easy as possible for both families and individuals. Each vaccine given at this clinic helps protect everyone and prevent similar tragedies here in Central Indiana.”

The vaccination clinic will be held inside the Schwitzer Student Clinic on Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the public are encouraged to park in the parking lots outside of Schwitzer, just off East Hanna Avenue, particularly the Wesley Circle parking lot outside of Ransburg Auditorium or the visitor parking lot between Schwitzer and Nicoson Hall and the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. Insurance is not required, however, if you do have insurance, please bring your information.
Media members are welcome to attend, with RSVPs appreciated but not required. To set up an interview or for more information, please contact UIndy’s Director of Public & Media Relations Dan Klein at kleind@uindy.edu.
