The Daily Journal highlighted how the University of Indianapolis’ live mascot program is fostering connection and community across campus, first with Grady I and now the introduction of Grady II. Coran Sigman, UIndy’s live mascot handler and marketing & communications manager, described how the greyhounds provide comfort and support to students through classroom visits and campus events, often serving as an anchor for those feeling stressed, homesick or in need of emotional support. Elizabeth Ziff, associate professor of sociology and co-director of the Community Research Center, noted that the program brings the UIndy community together in organic and enthusiastic ways and has benefits beyond what could have been predicted academically or sociologically. UIndy President Tanuja Singh highlighted the broader impact of the program, saying that traditions like the live mascot program strengthen bonds among students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The article demonstrates how the live mascot program reflects UIndy’s commitment to student engagement, wellbeing and fostering a welcoming campus environment.
