University of Indianapolis celebrates diversity with 38th annual Celebration of Flags Ceremony & Festivities

Celebration of Flags 2025. People holding flags.

The University of Indianapolis will showcase its rich diversity, as well as one of its most beloved traditions, with the 38th annual Celebration of Flags Ceremony & Festivities on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center. The event brings together students, faculty, staff and alumni as a colorful reminder that UIndy is truly home to a global community.

Celebration of Flags is modeled after the Olympics Opening Ceremony, with individual recognition during the ‘Call of Nations’ of the self-identified international heritage of all current students, faculty and staff—everything from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. This special tradition brings the campus community together to celebrate culture, diversity and unity. Most flags are carried by someone from that country, and some flag bearers will dress in traditional clothing from their country as well, making the ceremony a vibrant expression of heritage and belonging.

Festivities will continue with a variety of cultural experiences for the community to enjoy. Attendees can sample food from different countries around the world on Smith Mall.

About 500 guests are expected to attend, with the public welcome to join the UIndy community. Parking is free on campus.
