UIndy experts discuss FBI artifacts probe
Dr. Christopher Moore, left, displays American Indian artifacts to WTHR’s Rich Van Wyk, center, during an interview Friday in Lilly Science Hall.
Two UIndy professors provided some perspective this week when the FBI began investigating a Rush County man’s vast collection of American Indian artifacts and other historic items from around the world.
The investigation has raised interesting questions about the legal and ethical issues involved in collecting such antiquities — issues quite familiar to UIndy’s Dr. Christopher Schmidt and Dr. Christopher Moore, who often lead students on archeological digs around the country.
WISH-TV spoke Thursday with Schmidt, professor in the Department of Anthropology and director of UIndy’s Indiana Prehistory Laboratory. Watch or read that report here.
WTHR-TV spoke Friday with Moore, a UIndy alumnus and assistant professor in the Departments of Anthropology and Physics & Earth-Space Sciences. Watch or read that report here.
