UIndy Writing Lab presents at regional conference
The UIndy Writing Lab was well represented at the 2019 East Central Writing Centers Association (ECWCA) conference in Dayton, Ohio. The conference theme was “Soaring to New Heights: Breakthroughs, Inventions, and Progress in Writing Centers.”
UIndy Writing Lab directors, a graduate tutor, and four peer tutors gave five presentations:
Director Rick Marshall and graduate tutor Ashley Bauman presented “Breaking Through the ‘Editing Service’ Misperception: Using Telephone Consultations to Serve Students in Online Courses.”
Associate Director Dawn Hershberger led a special interest group discussion on working with international students and gave a presentation called “Dropping Preconceived Ideas in Order to Help Writers Soar: Using Improv Techniques in Tutor Training.”
Director Rick Marshall and peer tutor Karrah Pattengale gave a presentation entitled “Breaking Through to the English Department: Reducing Misperceptions Held by English Professors about Writing Lab Consultations.”
Peer tutors Hannah Smith, Amelia Lasbury and Kara Wagoner gave a panel presentation entitled “Breaking Through Academic Barriers: Which Major Knows the ‘Wright’ Way to Write?”
