Ryan Pietras featured for archaeology internship
Graduate student Ryan Pietras ’20 was recently featured in an archaeology news publication for his work interning with the State of Indiana’s Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA).
Pietras is an archeology major at UIndy. His ethnoarcheological thesis project focus is in legend tripping, which refers to participation in urban legends and folklore, such as ghost hunting. He began his internship with the DHPA after sending emails to various archeological programs throughout central Indiana. Rachel Sharkey, Research Archeologist, responded with the internship opportunity. According to the program, Pietras will be digitizing the archaeology film archives and creating an accompanying catalog.
Pietras stated, “I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to meet the people that I am likely to interact with in the future and gain a better understanding of the legal context that keeps archaeological firms in business.”
