Student research featured in webinar
Aaron Drake ‘21 (chemistry major, biology minor), 2020 recipient of the Wayne Patrick Comer Award, had data featured in the latest seminar in the JASCO series on Molecular Spectroscopy.
Drake’s data was taken during the SCAS’ Summer Research Institute ‘19 and was supported by a Shaheen grant. Panel speaker Sherry Hemmingsen discussed applications in spectroscopy, which took a closer look at bio-analysis using temperature control and thermal melting. This technique is a powerful tool to monitor protein stability and protein-protein/protein-nucleic acid binding interactions and is used with a range of spectroscopic techniques including fluorescence, UV-Visible, and circular dichroism.
