UIndy Co-Hosts Virtual International Symposium on Service-Learning (ISSL) 2021

Educators from across the globe came together to explore the deep work of critical service-learning/community engagement and to discuss the impacts of COVID (both positive and negative) and what lessons have been learned that will continue to shape the work moving forward (including, but not limited to: policies, partnerships, and modes of learning) during last week’s ISSL2021. The event was co-hosted by the University of Indianapolis, the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), and Stellenbosh University (South Africa), with the support of Indiana Campus Compact.

Highlights included global panelists :

Dr. Zahra Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Politics, Saint Mary’s College of California (USA)

Dr. Mark Charlton, Director of the DMU Square Mile Program, De Montfort University (UK)

Dr. Antionette Smith-Tolken, Project Director of Dual Higher Education Project (South Africa)

Dr. Marios Antoniou, NGO Support Centre – Member of Board of Directors Parallel Faculty Development Sessions and Lightning Rounds on diverse themes in relation to critical service-learning in higher education during a pandemic were also highlights of the event.
