UIndy Professor Jim Williams Hosts Episode for Great Courses Plus

Written by Ella Shelburn

Earlier this year, Dr. Jim Williams, Dean of the Ron & Laura Strain Honors College and professor of history, filmed a pilot episode for the Great Courses Plus streaming service, which was published last month.

Great Courses Plus is a global brand that produces educational content created by accomplished professors and experts on many subjects. Like UIndy, Great Courses Plus supports the message of life-long learning, and Dr. Williams hopes to communicate that message through his pilot episode. He is the first UIndy faculty and staff member to be featured on this website.

“This is an opportunity to showcase the quality of teaching we have on campus,” said Dr. Williams. “Because these lectures are available to anyone, this dovetails with our vision of being an institution that fosters lifelong learning opportunities.”

Dr. Williams’ pilot episode for Great Courses Plus, titled “Alaric the Goth and the Sack of Rome,” will likely be picked up for a series. The episode details the sack of the city of Rome, which led to the eventual fall of the Roman Empire.
