Dr. Ken Reid, associate dean and director of the R.B. Annis School of Engineering, was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus by Purdue University School of Engineering Education at their annual celebration.
The Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes graduates of the School of Engineering Education who have “achieved singular accomplishments in their fields, whose successful careers are role models for Purdue’s students, and whose achievements set an example for all the School of Engineering Education’s alumni.”

At the award reception, Dr. Reid was recognized for his deep commitment to engineering education. Highlights included his professional achievement award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for designing the first Bachelor of Science degree in engineering education and his numerous publications in engineering, mathematics, and digital electronics.
Dr. Reid graduated from Purdue University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering and returned to earn his PhD in Engineering Education in 2008, only the seventh person nationwide to receive this degree.
Dr. Reid joined the UIndy community in 2020 as associate dean of the School of Engineering. Since then, he has led the School through the successful accreditation of its undergraduate Industrial & Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software Engineering programs by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Under his leadership, the School also earned national recognition in the 2023–2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings—the first such distinction in the program’s history.
“I’m honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Reid. “I had the privilege of being in the first cohort in the Ph.D. program in Engineering Education at Purdue, and got to work with awesome people. I love being able to continue working with my friends and colleagues in Engineering Education and making a difference at UIndy.”
