WISH-TV: New program aims to address healthcare shortage in Indiana
The University of Indianapolis is launching the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program this fall to address the growing demand for acute care nurse practitioners in hospitals.
The program is designed for nurse practitioners who want to work in acute care settings for patients aged 13 and above. It aims to double the training slots available for acute care nurse practitioners in Indiana, where currently only one central university offers face-to-face education for this specialization.
“We prescribe medications, we diagnose, we develop treatment plans,” explained Dr. Wendy Stoelting-Gettelfinger, emphasizing the collaborative nature of nurse practitioners working with physicians.
