The R.B. Annis School of Engineering at the University of Indianapolis is proud to announce that each of its engineering bachelor’s degree programs has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, a nonprofit, ISO 9001-certified quality assurance organization. Through the accreditation of academic programs, recognition of credentials and assessment of student learning, ABET supports excellence in education worldwide.
UIndy’s computer engineering, electrical engineering and general engineering programs earned ABET accreditation during the organization’s most recent review. The industrial & systems engineering, mechanical engineering and software engineering programs had already earned accreditation.
ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
“I am extremely pleased to announce this exciting news to our students, our faculty, our graduates and the business community,” said Dr. Ken Reid, associate dean at the R.B. Annis School of Engineering. “Based on the practical learning and experiential education facilitated by our innovative DesignSpine curriculum, I believe our program is one of the strongest in the nation. It is rare for an institution to have multiple programs earn full accreditation on its inaugural visit—and we are six for six.”
“The ABET accreditation is a strong validation of the quality of our programs, faculty and staff,” said UIndy President Tanuja Singh. “Past, present and future students can be confident knowing that they are well prepared for an exciting and fulfilling career solving a wide variety of problems.”
Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.
Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.
ABET currently accredits 4,773 programs at 930 colleges and universities in 41 countries and areas as of Oct. 1, 2024.
The ABET accreditation is retroactive to include all graduates of the R.B. Annis School of Engineering. Each UIndy program is accredited through Sept. 30, 2028. The next visit for the re-accreditation process is scheduled for the fall of 2027.
