UIndy Dance Team Wins 2nd Consecutive National Championship
The UIndy Dance Team recently competed at Dance Team Union’s College Classic National Championship where they were named National Champions for the second year in a row! In 2022, the team earned it’s first program national title in the category of DII Team Performance. This year, the team earned their second national title in DII Pom, coming in 2nd in the DII Team Performance category by only 0.86 points.
The winning routine is incredibly special to the UIndy Dance Team program because it is in honor of a 2021 alumna of the team and university, Hannah Salamie, who recently won her battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This was the first year in program history the UIndy dancers have competed in the pom division. The team’s coaches, Carlee Bachek (head coach) and Jada Watson (assistant coach), chose to dedicate their routine to Hannah in honor of her strength throughout her battle with cancer. The dancers used neon green poms in honor of lymphoma awareness and danced to some of Hannah’s favorite musical artists.
