How does the Bible tell the stories of women? And Children? How did the women and children of the Bible shape their world, and ours today? And how should we continue to tell their stories, since they did not get to tell them for themselves? Join us as we examine their marginalized perspectives, and in doing so examine ourselves.
Lecture 1 @ 4 p.m. – Minors in the Bible are not Minor: Introducing Childist Biblical Interpretation
Lecture 2 @ 7 p.m. – Faith and Feminism: Reading the Bible with this Liberating Lens
Speaker: The Rev. Dr. Julie Faith Parker is a Visiting Scholar at Union Theological Seminary and the Biblical Scholar in Residence at Marble Collegiate Church, both in New York City. She holds a Ph.D. in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible from Yale University and is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church (New York Annual Conference). She has published many scholarly articles and is the author or editor of eight books, including the recently released, Eve Isn’t Evil: Feminist Readings of the Bible to Upend Our Assumptions, now in its second printing.
