With Indiana lawmakers preparing for a special legislative session on congressional redistricting, University of Indianapolis Associate Professor of Political Science Gregory Shufeldt and Associate Professor of Political Science Laura Merrifield Wilson offered expert insight to the Indianapolis Business Journal on the legal, logistical, and political implications of Indiana’s redistricting process.

Wilson explained that the process could become complicated by timing and procedure, because congressional candidates can begin filing for the primary on Jan. 7. Shufeldt discussed how potential court challenges and Voting Rights Act considerations could focus on whether proposed Indiana congressional maps weaken representation for minority voters.

Their commentary highlights how UIndy political science experts provide context on civic engagement, election law and state government processes shaping public policy in Indiana.
