WXIN: UIndy Community Literacy Day

Community Literacy Day on Fox

FOX59 spotlighted the University of Indianapolis’s first Community Literacy Day, a family-friendly event designed to promote early literacy, celebrate young authors and connect Central Indiana families with reading resources in an interview with event organizer Tracy Johnson, UIndy assistant professor of education. The event on Feb. 28 is scheduled to include interactive activities, local authors and storytellers, crafts and performances, with children in kindergarten through eighth grade able to choose a free book to take home. Johnson discussed how creating engaging, accessible literacy experiences helps children build confidence as readers and writers while reinforcing the importance of family involvement in literacy development. The coverage reflects how University of Indianapolis expertise in literacy education and community partnerships supports broader efforts to strengthen reading skills and foster a lifelong love of learning in Indianapolis and beyond.
