WRTV: A new chapter for young readers: UIndy hosts first-ever Community Literacy Day

Community Literacy Day family WRTV

The University of Indianapolis hosted its first Community Literacy Day, bringing together families, authors and educators to promote childhood literacy through interactive activities and reading engagement. WRTV highlighted the event, which included storytelling, crafts, music therapy and opportunities for young readers to take home free books, all aimed at building enthusiasm for reading in Indianapolis. The segment featured Tracy Johnson, assistant professor of education and event organizer, who emphasized the importance of making reading and writing engaging and accessible so children develop confidence and long-term interest in literacy. The coverage reflects how University of Indianapolis expertise in literacy education and community partnerships supports broader efforts to improve reading proficiency and expand access to books for children and families across Central Indiana.
