Borrowing a phrase from the scholar Harold Bloom, “The Anxiety of Influence” traces the legacy of inspiration through several generations from Ives and Bartók to Bolcom, Berners, and Bridgham. How do important composers adapt, modify, or even misread the important works of their predecessors? In honor of the Shostakovich anniversary year, Dr. Bridgham explores the profound influence of J.S. Bach on the Russian master. Also featured: duo piano works of Francis Poulenc, Benjamin Britten, and György Ligeti.
