Faculty Artist Concert Series: The Effect of Affect

Join five Baroque music performers for a program packed full of emotion. Composition in the 17th and 18th centuries adhered to “The Doctrine of the Affections,” the prevailing manner of expressing stylized emotions. These were known as affections, or “affects,” such as love, anger, longing, sorrow, and joy. Works by Bach, Purcell, and others, performed on Baroque period instruments, take you on a roller coaster ride up and down the range of human feelings.
