Liszt Competition Prize Winner Concert — Dr. Hyeseon Jin

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Hyeseon Jin, First Prize Winner and recipient of the Alan Walker Budapest Prize at the Franz Liszt International Piano Festival and Competition in Ohio, which is co-directed by Dr. Ryan Behan, Director of Keyboard Studies in the UINDY Department of Music.

Dr. Jin presents a captivating program featuring Liszt’s Après une lecture du Dante, Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, Respighi’s Notturno, and Ravel’s dazzling La valse.

This program holds special significance as Dr. Jin will present it at the Liszt Museum in Budapest this December, bringing her prize-winning artistry to the very heart of Liszt’s legacy.

Dr. Hyeseon Jin’s biography:

A multifaceted pianist, Dr. Hyeseon Jin is an Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She earned her Doctor of Music in Piano Performance and Music Literature, with minors in Music Theory and Arts Administration, from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she also completed her Master of Music and Performer Diploma. She received her Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University in South Korea.

An active soloist and collaborative pianist, Dr. Jin has performed at major venues including the Kennedy Center and the Seoul Arts Center. She has appeared as a fellow at the Gijón International Piano Festival and as an artist-in-residence at Porto Pianofest. Recognized with top prizes in more than a dozen international competitions, she was the first female winner of the Robert B. Beardsley Piano Prize Competition and received the American Liszt Society Award at the LA International Liszt Competition. Most recently, she was awarded First Prize and the Alan Walker Budapest Prize at the Franz Liszt International Piano Festival and Competition.

Committed to music education and arts administration, Dr. Jin is the Founder and Director of the IU Blossom Piano Camp and served as Chair of major competitions, including the National Society of Arts and Letters Instrumental Competition and Indiana Music Teachers Association’s Hoosier Auditions. Additionally, she remains active as a competition adjudicator and organizer, contributing significantly to music education, community engagement, and arts administration. Her previous faculty appointments include Anderson University, DePauw University, and the IU Young Pianists Program.
