Stanley Turrentine & Eddie Harris Tribute with UIndy Faculty | At The Jazz Kitchen

DOORS 5PM | SHOW 7PM
5377 N College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220

Join saxophonist Mark O’Connor and his quartet for an evening celebrating saxophonists Stanley Turrentine and Eddie Harris – the most bluesy and groovy tenor players straight ahead jazz has to offer. O’Connor’s quartet features stellar organist and pianist Shawn McGowan, top call Indy bassist Jesse Wittman, and super groovy drummer Richard “Sleepy” Floyd.

Mark O’Connor is a fiery and exciting saxophonist whose groups have performed at venues such as the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Carmel Jazz Festival, and The Jazz Showcase, Chicago’s premier jazz club. O’Connor’s saxophone playing has been described as “…meaty enough to channel the jazz tradition, but modern enough to capture the yearning vulnerabilities of his own time” – Neil Tesser, Chicago Jazz Music Examiner.

In addition to sharing the stage with such nationally-known jazz artists as Emmet Cohen, Isaiah Thompson, and Tamir Hendelman, O’Connor plays regularly with the Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, one of the best big bands in the Midwest. He has also played at The Jazz Kitchen and the Chatterbox Jazz Club with such local jazz luminaries as Kenny Phelps, Brandon Meeks, and Chris Pitts.
