Unwelcomed: A Fair Housing History
of Sales & Lending Discrimination

The Department of Sociology alongside The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) presents Unwelcomed: A Fair Housing History of Sales & Lending Discrimination. The interactive exhibit educates participants on the systemic barriers that have impacted today’s neighborhoods through redlining, racial covenants, steering, neighborhood intimidation, and other forms of housing discrimination.

The two-sided 12 panel exhibit, Unwelcomed, will be located on the second floor of Krannert Memorial Library throughout the entire month of September. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to visit and reflect on the impact systemic barriers in housing have had on shaping today’s neighborhoods in our community. 

In addition to the exhibit, a discussion will be held about the housing discrimination regarding history, current issues, and local efforts. Details for that are below:

Discussion on Housing Discrimination

Erika will speak about historical and contemporary housing discrimination in the U.S. with specific content about Indianapolis. She will also discuss the work that the Fair Housing Center does locally to combat these issues. This talk will also spotlight information featured in the exhibit.
