“You have less of an incentive to go vote, in a winner-take-all system like we have here in the United States, if you are a member of the minority party,” Dr. Stevenson explained.

Assistant Professor Katherine Kivisto of UIndy’s School of Psychological Sciences was among the experts cited this weekend in an Indianapolis Star story that spread nationwide via news wire services.

In the wake of a Zionsville eighth-grader’s recent suicide, school officials have warned parents that other students are sharing an online video in which the victim discussed the idea of taking his own life, sparking concerns that others might follow his lead. Dr. Kivisto said suicide threats made on social media should be taken seriously and require immediate intervention.
