Advocacy is a key career skill for any public health professional. University of Indianapolis Master of Public Health students Any’e Carson and Yordanos Gebru, along with the Dr. Heidi Hancher-Rauch, director of the UIndy Public Health Programs, recently published an article in Health Promotion Practice detailing their experience in planning and executing a 2017 Statehouse Advocacy Day on behalf of the Indiana Society of Public Health Education. The purpose of the article, titled “Building Advocacy Capacity and Skills Through a Statehouse Advocacy Day: Indiana SOPHE Experience” is to provide public health organizations and practitioners a guide for organizing an advocacy summit to develop and practice advocacy skills.
