Shaheen Grant recipient Rachel Hurrell presents research at conference
Ron and Laura Strain Honors College student and Shaheen Grant recipient Rachel Hurrell ’20 (chemistry) recently presented research at the 49th annual Turkey Run Analytical Conference in September. Levi Mielke, associate professor of chemistry, co-authored the paper.
Hurrell expertly presented a poster entitled “Method Development for the Simultaneous Quantification of Ampicillin and Cloxacillin in Ampiclox using RP-HPLC.” The research was conducted in coordination with the Distributed Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory (DPAL) out of Marya Liberman’s group at the University of Notre Dame. The group works with pharmaceutical buyers in developing nations and analysis labs including the University of Indianapolis to determine the pharmaceutical purity of prescription drugs to identify falsified and substandard pharmaceuticals.
“I am proud of Rachel’s continuing work,” Mielke said. “Her presentation at the conference was one of only a few presented by undergraduates and the only presentation from the University of Indianapolis.”
