WRTV: UIndy launches acute care nurse practitioner program to fill gaps in healthcare
The University of Indianapolis has introduced a new Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program to prepare nurses to care for patients ages 13 and older in hospital and critical‑care settings amid ongoing provider shortages. As reported on WRTV, the hybrid program combines virtual foundational coursework with in‑person specialty training in simulation labs that allow students to practice advanced clinical procedures before working with live patients. Dr. Wendy Stoelting‑Gettelfinger, associate professor of nursing and the director of the clinical program, explained that the curriculum will expand the pipeline of highly trained acute care providers at a time when both physician and nursing shortages are intensifying. The launch of this program underscores how University of Indianapolis nursing education expertise contributes to broader efforts to strengthen Indiana’s healthcare workforce and respond to critical care demands.
