UIndy Faculty, Staff Provide Expert Insight to Local & National Media in August:

As part of their commitment to “education for service,” faculty and staff at the University of Indianapolis share their expertise with local and national news outlets in order to keep our community informed and to introduce new perspectives on current issues.

UIndy faculty and staff were featured in the following news stories in August:

Dr. Jennifer Camden, professor of English, sat down for live interviews to build excitement and interest for this year’s Communiversity course featuring Bram Stoker’s Dracula book on both WISH-TV as well as WXIN.

Dr. Aerin Welch, interim program director of the department of psychological sciences, shared her expertise with Indianapolis Monthly about the counseling crisis in Hoosier schools or the need for school psychologists and mental health providers as UIndy begins its first cohort in the School Psychology program.

Kim Pate, director of intercollegiate athletics, described how UIndy was putting aside competition in the Monumental Matchup with its crosstown rival in one way—to collect items for victims of the devastating floods in Central Indiana both in an interview with WXIN as well as an in-studio interview on WXIN on the morning of the game.

Chris Keevers, head football coach, provided interviews about how Greyhounds linebacker Alvin Contreras has turned into a top collegiate player as well as how the team will have to change its style thanks to a new starting quarterback to the Indianapolis Star. He helped preview the Monumental Matchup rivalry game with WTHR. He was the featured guest of the Get IN. Sports podcast with Dom Miranda for an episode titled ‘The Football Powerhouse Hiding in the Midwest.’

Victoria Hall, assistant professor of practice of accounting and finance, discussed the importance of using a budgeting app for ordinary people to help manage their finances and make budgeting easier for WalletHub.

Dr. Tanuja Singh was featured in Community Connect Media after the announcement of Perry Township’s $30 million investment and partnership with the University of Indianapolis. She shared her insight about the importance of the project at the actual groundbreaking with WTHR. She was a featured speaker for one of the moderated panel discussions at the Accelerate Higher Ed event organized by the Indy Chamber. 

Deborah Daniels, chair of the Board of Trustees, was showcased in the coverage of the Perry Township groundbreaking on WIBC.

Dr. Emily Tisdale, executive director of the Center for Aging & Community and adjunct faculty, sat down for an in-studio interview on WXIN about how the first-ever CareReady Academy can provide an important and practical learning experience for unpaid caregivers.

Dr. Matt Will, associate professor of finance, discussed various financial topics during several live interviews with Tony Katz on WIBC, including whether the country is trying to ditch its own reserve currency status and how Wall Street may be misreading the Fed.

Dr. Laura Merrifield Wilson, associate professor of political science, was a featured guest on the IN Focus program on WXIN as well as the Indiana Week in Review program on WFYI. She shared her expertise about how Gov. Mike Braun’s gas tax maneuver could have repercussions with WXIN in a story which was syndicated by WIBC. She discussed the impact of Sen. Todd Young’s push to limit congressional stock trading before the 2028 primary for a story in the Indiana Capital Chronicle which was subsequently picked up by WTHI and Inside Indiana Business. She was highlighted as the moderator of an upcoming Indiana Secretary of State debate next month as mentioned in the Indiana Citizen, the Indiana Capital Chronicle, as well as WTHI-TV and the Evansville Courier & Press.

Lauri Shillings, creative director and Libertarian running for Indiana Secretary of State, was interviewed by Tony Katz on WIBC as well as WLFI-TV. Her participation and views were included as part of coverage by Current Publishing of a OneZone luncheon featuring the candidates. Her participation in an upcoming candidate debate was covered by outlets like the Lebanon Reporter and the Terre Haute Tribune Star as well as Indypolitics.org. She was quoted as part of the coverage of the first debate by the Indiana Capital Chronicle as well as the Indianapolis Business Journal, for a story which was subsequently syndicated by the Daily Journal.
