University of Indianapolis Center for Aging & Community to celebrate 25 years with inaugural aging symposium
The University of Indianapolis Center for Aging & Community will celebrate 25 years of improving the lives of older adults by hosting its 25th Anniversary Celebration & Inaugural Aging Symposium on Thursday, Oct. 1. The free event at the UIndy Health Pavilion is open to the public and centered on “The Future of Aging.” The symposium will bring together caregivers, professionals and community members for a day of learning and conversation focused on what comes next for aging services, community care and the quality of life for older adults.

The Center for Aging & Community (CAC) is one of Indiana’s leading centers for aging studies and uses research, education and real-world action to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice—all with the goal of improving how people experience aging. The CAC is grounded in the foundational principle that older adults are assets to their families, communities and society, and that with the right support and resources, everyone can age with dignity and optimal health.
“Twenty-five years of impact is worth celebrating, but we cannot simply dwell on the work that has brought us to this moment,” said Emily Tisdale, executive director of the Center for Aging & Community. “The future of aging requires bold new ideas and a shared commitment from caregivers, professionals, community partners and older adults themselves to help people thrive as they age. This symposium is all about bringing those voices together in one room to learn, to imagine what comes next—and then work together to make it happen.”
The inaugural aging symposium will include a keynote address from Joel Hungate, assistant vice president for strategy at Hancock Health, where he leads innovative approaches to advancing population health, as well as a panel discussion exploring the future of aging with experts from diverse fields including geriatric medicine, dementia care, education and robotics. The symposium will also feature the first CAC Impact Fund Grant Awards recognizing student-led ideas designed to improve the lives of older adults and advance aging care initiatives and services across Indiana.
“The Center for Aging & Community’s 25th anniversary is an opportunity to recognize the legacy of service, scholarship and partnership that has improved the lives of older adults everywhere for decades,” said University of Indianapolis President Tanuja Singh. “As Indiana’s population continues to age, the need for strong leadership and meaningful solutions has never been more important. Through the CAC, UIndy is helping strengthen communities, support caregivers and prepare the next generation of leaders in the field of aging, living out our ‘Education for Service’ motto in a very powerful way.”
Registration for the free event is open, although space is limited, so people who are interested in attending are encouraged to do so immediately. The symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is intended for anyone interested in the future of aging including caregivers, professionals, students, older adults and community members.
