Renowned Composer Anthony Davis will appear at UIndy for a series of talks, concerts and community engagement activities on February 10-11, 2025.
Hailed as one of the “great living American composers” by the New York Times, Anthony Davis stunned the operatic world with X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, and his 2020 Pulitzer Prize winning opera, The Central Park Five.
Davis’s extraordinary career pushes the boundaries of jazz, avant-garde, and classical music, and his powerful social messages redefine the role of artists for our times.
Monday evening, February 10 at 7 PM, Music Sociologist, Joshua Thompson, and UIndy faculty, Dr. Eileen Mah will facilitate a public interview with Davis as they delve into his career and work. Integrating lively dialogue with video clips from the recent Met production of X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, and his 2020 Pulitzer-winning opera, The Central Park Five, Davis will share his creative inspirations and the many genres he draws from and reflect on the importance of political art.
